Cuffing season may nearly be over, but Cuffed Up season is just beginning. The Los Angeles rockers have announced their debut album All You Got, coming April 5 on Hit the North Records, and shared their latest single and music video, explosive album opener “Finer Things.”

Listeners keen on both melodic, emotional indie rock and propulsive, tightly wound post-punk will find that Cuffed Up reside in the dead center of that Venn diagram. Formed by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Torrefranca and drummer Joe Liptock in 2018, then joined by vocalist/guitarist Christina Apostolopoulos in 2022, the trio first bonded over bands like Shame and Death Cab for Cutie—the former’s first L.A. show inspired the band’s formation, while Torrefranca and Liptock were once cover-bandmates focused on the latter.

“Finer Things” evokes a sunnier Bloc Party, with Liptock’s insistent drumming and Torrefranca and Apostolopoulos’ punchy guitar riffs all racing ahead in tandem. Meanwhile, Torrefranca subverts the track’s title by upholding love above all else: “Nothing is finer, no matter what they say,” he insists before the anthemic choruses, which are punctuated by the longing lyric, “I’m hoping and wishing, we tear into forever.” Apostolopoulos shines in the bridge, soloing hypnotically before locking back in with Torrefranca.

“The verses of the song describe the undeniable bolt of lightning that shoots down your body when you meet someone you’re absolutely infatuated with,” Torrefranca explains of the song in a statement. “The pure pheromones of attraction that excite you more than anything you’ve ever experienced, feeling an overwhelming rush of the idea that they’re one of a kind. The chorus is the big realization that this person can potentially be ‘the one’ person you’ve been searching for your whole life.”

“Finer Things” arrives alongside a music video co-directed by Jacob Butler and Torrefranca, and is our third preview of All You Got after last fall’s “Little Wins” and “Love Is…”
