The music of current indie-rock it boy MJ Lenderman has been compared to that of Neil Young for Lenderman’s high-and-lonesome howl, his serrated guitar work and the music’s general raggedness. Between 2022’s critically-acclaimed Boat Songs and his work with Asheville shoegaze-country band Wednesday on 2023’s Rat Saw God, Lenderman has been a party to some of the most-talked about records two years in a row.
And with singles “She’s Leaving You,” “Joker Lips” and the latest, the rugged “Wristwatch” from Lenderman’s forthcoming full length, Manning Fireworks (out now on Anti-), the young artist appears poised for a three-peat.
