The Jacksonville Music Experience will launch a new evening of music programming beginning Saturday, January 6 on WJCT News 89.9. Drawing on JME‘s roster of music contributors, and the music currently in rotation on WJCT’s new-music discovery station the Independent 89.9 HD4, JME Saturday Nights includes three new music shows.

Beginning at 8 p.m., the Jax Music Hour puts the spotlight on our region’s eclectic music scene, bringing you up to speed on the artists, venues, shows and community that make Jacksonville special. Music journalist and author Hurley Winkler curates a playlist of new music made by Jacksonville-area artists, as well as emerging and established acts set to perform in and around Jacksonville, with interviews featuring local tastemakers and musicians, as well as nationally-touring artists. Aside from being a regular contributor to JME, Winkler is the founder of Lonely Victories, an online community for writers and readers. Her writing has appeared in The Millions, Hobart, and The Believer.

Following the Jax Music Hour, the Neighborhood is a sonic journey through new and classic hip-hop and R&B, soul, funk, jazz and more. Hosted by Duval-based hip-hop artist Mr. Al Pete, the Neighborhood airs at 9 p.m. A musician, DJ, podcaster and journalist, Mr. Al Pete is a regular contributor to JME, and the founder of The MPN Network, a website that covers arts, music and culture.

The return of WJCT station manager David Luckin’s globally popular Electro Lounge follows the Neighborhood at 10 p.m. For two decades, Luckin set the standard on local radio for tasteful and eclectic curation, with playlists filled with downtempo, chillout cuts from artists in all genres. A legend in public media and non-commercial radio, Luckin has more than four decades of broadcast experience, and has developed and hosted several music programs, including NightFlight, the precursor to the Electro Lounge.
And the music continues from 11 p.m. into the early morning with a The Independent Overnight, a playlist of new music and deep cuts culled from the rotation of WJCT’s new-music discovery station.
JME Saturday Nights is the latest expansion of listening options from the JME, which already includes three radio stations — Classical 24 on 89.9 HD2, Anthology on 89.9 HD3 and the Independent on 89.9 HD4. A service of WJCT Public Media, JME is a nonprofit, publicly supported music platform based in Jacksonville, Florida that aims to inform and inspire through listening experiences, live concerts on the WJCT Soundstage and area venues, music programming on Jax PBS and music news, features, interviews, playlists and other content on the web at jaxmusic.org.
JME Saturday Nights airs on Saturday nights beginning January 6 at 8 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9. and will be simulcasted on The Independent 89.9 HD4. Listen on the radio, on the WJCT app or stream from wjct.org or jaxmusic.org/the-independent. All three shows will replay on Sundays, beginning at 2 p.m. on the Independent 89.9 HD4.
