Amid chatter of a new album on the way from The xx — and a forever-feeling wait for the follow-up to his 2015 solo album In Colour — English DJ and producer Jamie xx has shared his first new single in nearly two years, the entrancing “It’s So Good.”

Released this week via London’s Young (fka Young Turks), the song soundtracks Chanel’s Coco Crush ad campaign, in which artist JENNIE, actor Amandla Stenberg and others play an incredibly stylish game of musical chairs. “It’s So Good” itself is a densely layered club track full of unexpected stops and starts that only heighten its hypnotic pull. It sputters and surges, but never holds one posture for long, with its eponymous vocal sample echoing endlessly, like a mantra to guide one through the music.

“It’s So Good” is Jamie xx’s first release since his 2022 singles “LET’S DO IT AGAIN” and “KILL DEM,” released that April and September, respectively. He’s been more focused on collaboration lately, lending his talents as a producer to Tyler, the Creator’s 2021 standout Call Me If You Get Lost, as well as the solo debuts of his xx bandmates, including Oliver Sim’s Hideous Bastard in 2022 and Romy’s Mid Air in 2023.

2023 saw Jamie xx taking his acclaimed live set around the world, including North American shows alongside LCD Soundsystem and IDLES. Here’s hoping 2024 brings more new music.
