The Electro Lounge is back and rolling out weekly dreamscapes — an eclectic hour of chillout, downtempo cuts every Saturday at 10 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9.
Here’s what host David Luckin played on the January 13 episode.
De-Phazz & STÜBA philharmonie – “Sabbatical“
So you’ve got that favorite album from one of your favorite bands. And now they’ve gone and re-made your favorite choice cut. Well, there is no disappointment when De-Phazz adds the STÜBA Philharmonie to “Sabbatical,” originally from their long player: “DEATH BY CHOCOLATE.” The opening strings and woodwinds envelop you and take you up to the clouds. And then the familiar sax comes in and you’re off on a De-Phazz journey into the finest lounge-music ever.
Bitter:Sweet – “Take 2 Blue” (Roy Dubb Remix)
Lemongrass – “Le voyage”
Aya – “Slippin’“
Deep Dive Corp. – “Summertime”
Marga Sol – “Midnight Flight”
Telepopmusik – “Breathe“
Thanks to a 2003 TV ad for the Mitsubishi Outlander, America was introduced to Telepopmusik and their Alt/Indie Grammy-nominated song “Breathe.” It was a time when some of us were saying: the best music on the radio is on TV. “Breathe” was the perfect example of big corporations using indie- and alternative music to stand out and appeal to a younger audience (or at least attempt to). And lucky us, we got introduced to new music. With Sex in The City, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under offering amazing soundtracks and some snappy commercials, it was true, the best music was on TV — until The Electro Lounge started spinning the fresh sounds, of course.
Holderlin – “Lullaby”
Beachvibes – “Atlantic”
Stella Starlight Trio – “Together in Electric Dreams“
Kings Of Convenience – “Misread”
Billie Eilish – “Hotline Bling”
Why do we love Record Store Day? Because the rarities come out into the light. Like this special pink-45 of Billie’s Party Favor. But the real treat was finding Billie covering Drake in a most creative way on the B side. Yeah, can you believe Billie interpreting “Hot Line Bling”? For quite a while, the 45 was the only version available. From Louis Armstrong to Billie Eilish, the Electro Lounge is pleased to play all styles of music to ease the stress and to bring a little peace into our world.
Gare Du Nord – “You’re My Medicine”
De-Phazz & STÜBA philharmonie – “Death By Chocolate”
Electro Lounge airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9 and re-airs on the Independent 89.9 HD4 on Sundays at 4 p.m.
