Butcher Brown, Son Little Announce April Show at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

Jacksonville-based fans of all things jazzy, soulful and funky have a date with a killer double bill this spring, when Butcher Brown and Son Little’s newly announced southeastern U.S. tour comes to Ponte Vedra.

Active since 2013, Richmond, Virginia’s Butcher Brown released one of JME’s favorite albums of 2023 in Solar Music, and that title tells you a lot about the quintet’s sonic philosophy: Every sound under the sun is fair game, from hip-hop beats, rhymes and life to jazzy improvisations and surreal psychedelia. As drummer Corey Fonville—joined by producer/multi-instrumentalist DJ Harrison, bassist/composer Andrew Randazzo, trumpeter/saxophonist/MC Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney and guitarist Morgan Burrs—says in the band’s bio, “We get daps from the jazz cats, the rap scene, the indie scene, and everyone else.”

Opposite Butcher Brown will be Philadelphia singer-songwriter Son Little, whose latest full length Like Neptune, released in 2022, was his most acclaimed to date. The album found the artist born Aaron Livingston digging deeper than ever into his own personal history and its resulting ripple effects on his life, translating his trauma and anxiety into a cathartic collection of slow-burning neo-soul and R&B songs. “Even when [music is] bad, it’s good,” Livingston told American Songwriter last year. “I think that’s why it draws people together so much because it can be whatever it needs to be for you.” 

Butcher Brown and Son Little’s tour kicks off in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 5, hitting Austin, Clearwater and Orlando before coming to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday, April 12. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. local time, and are available online and at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre box office.
