“On Your Line,” the latest from Jacksonville singer-songwriter Rambler Kane is a three-minute stomp of country-rock choogle that serves up facets of the form—a relentless rhythm section in two-four, rolling finger-picked acoustic, and some tasty Hank Garland-style electric soloing—and Kane’s winning lyrics that are a honky-tonk allegory about fishing in the neon bar lights, and getting caught up; hook, line, and sinker.
Good, no-nonsense and coy-free cautionary country that is a welcome antidote and contrary approach to so much popular country music that sounds like it is transmitted from Planet Walmart.
You can catch Kane in concert at Falafel X Bar on Friday, March 10 and every Monday night from 8-10 p.m. at the Casbah Café in Avondale. Kane also plays the Woofstock Festival at Kanine Social on April 15.
