Folk is People and WJCT’s Jacksonville Music Experience are partnering to present an evening of queer Americana and Country music featuring Rachel Angel, Daddy, Folk is People and more. Wear your most fashionable country western get-up and prepare to hang out and boot scoot. This event is for queer folks and allies with a vision to create a safe, supportive and loving atmosphere for everyone to enjoy live music.
Queer Country Disco is an annual event created by Stacey Bennett, a Jax-based songwriter and educator who performs under the name Folk is People. Through showcasing queer and BIPOC talent, this event honors and recognizes the fact that mainstream country and Americana were pioneered by BIPOC artists. QCD is a night of empowering systemically oppressed communities and an invitation to claim and be liberated in a space that is rightfully theirs. Historically, country music concerts have not been the most inviting places for queer people. Stacey saw an opportunity to create a space for queer folks and their stories, a space for performers and attendees to connect through art while celebrating the diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community.
