The avant-folk project of Toronto-based songwriter Tamara Lindeman, the Weather Station has shared “Neon Signs,” the first single from a new album, Humanhood, out January 17 on Mississippi imprint Fat Possum Records. On “Neon Signs” Lindeman again proves her uncanny ability to pull sonic and lyrical beauty out of interesting and unnerving places.

“I’ve gotten used to feeling like I’m crazy—or just lazy,” she sings in the track’s opening verse of “Neon Signs.” “Why can’t I get off this floor? Think straight anymore?” Over a complex indie-folk soundscape of acoustic piano, ambient flutes, and subtle percussion, Lindeman explores the depths of the mental health crisis brought on by the intense spotlight and incessant touring that followed the success of her critically praised 2021 album Ignorance.
