The Mercury Prize awarded to Ezra Collective for their 2022 album Where I’m Meant to Be, was an acknowledgement of the British jazz ensemble’s distinctive fusion of contemporary popular music modes and its individual members’ formidable musicianship. Awards notwithstanding, they’re certainly a band worth knowing about.
Featuring the British singer Yazmin Lacy, “God Gave Me Feet for Dancing” from the group’s new album Dance, No One’s Watching, due out September 27 on Partisan Records (IDLES, Cigarettes After Sex, Blondshell) is a joyous and funky celebration, and further evidence of the collective’s potential to reach ears outside of the traditional jazz audience.
